Junior Hockey Update
We have had a great response for the Junior Hockey Season ahead and an email will be sent out in the coming week regarding Membership Registration.
Please note that we have changed our communications from Teamer to ClubZap and all communications will come from them. We advise you to download the ClubZap app as this will be the main communication tool for updates on training, matches and events within the club.
We are so excited about getting back to hockey and our aim is to have everyone back on the pitch by 13th September, 2020 ( please note this is not definite as we are still working around current Covid regulations & they are ever changing).
With regard to Covid regulations, we will be following strict guidelines and adhering to all regulations put forward by the Government and Hockey Ireland. Whilst we don't want to take away from the fun of hockey, we must ensure a safe environment for our members, coaches and volunteers and there will be no exceptions to the rules. We will keep you updated and informed with what is required as we near the start of the season. We will need your help with this. If you have a few minutes to spare, please take this quick online course and let us know once you have completed it.
For any Junior players aged 14-18 years, Hockey Ireland will be running the Young Hockey Leader Awards and hopefully followed soon by Young Umpire programmes. The Young Hockey Leaders Award introduces young people to all aspects of the sport including umpiring, coaching, volunteering, and team management. There are two courses planned in and around Dublin, these are split with theory online (one hour) and then the pitch session is the next day- see more details and how to book at the attached link https://www.hockey.ie/news-detail/10064486/ .
There is also the Hockey Ireland Fundamentals of Coaching Hockey Course running on Sunday 26th July in Wicklow Hockey Club (11am - 5pm) for any players aged 16 years +. This is a bit more advanced to the YHLA programme and a great way to learn the key aspects of hockey coaching from preparing sessions, coach key hockey techniques and develop those techniques into skills through conditioned games. For more information and to book a place use the attached link Hockey Ireland Fundamentals of Coaching Hockey Course. Please note places are limited and it is advised to book quickly if interested.
Summer hockey is also starting back and is open to Junior players aged 16 years plus only. Information on Summer Hockey is available on the ClubZap App under Summer Hockey Chat.
Finally, we need as many parents as possible to step up and get involved, particularly with coaching. Many of you have already indicated you are willing to help, but if you are still on the fence and are able to help in any way, please let us know. Everyone is welcome and we can provide training plus help with the necessary requirements involved.
